Pure Barre Through Pregnancy

I will never forget my first Pure Barre class. My cousin, who teaches in Kentucky, convinced us to join her in class on Black Friday back in 2014. Side note- convinced us to go while we were drunk, class was at like 7 am the following day… of course, Pat and I were convinced we could wing an early morning hung over workout since we were athletes and welp, it wouldn’t be our first. But, without a doubt, we were wrong. Holy (enter choice four letter word).

I will never forget thinking during the warm up, and then five hundred more times throughout class, what the hell is this, are we done yet?, and most of all- HOW ARE THESE PEOPLE SURVIVING THIS?!

Fast forward a few months and I found myself signing up for my first month membership back in Texas and the rest is history. I started out as a client, took a job as a “barretender” (fancy name for front desk attendant), then in the spring of 2016 I headed to Denver to go to corporate’s training to become a Pure Barre instructor. It was in fact, hate then love, at first class.

Pure Barre has been something that I have cherished and loved so much throughout the past few years. It has been a constant throughout our craziness, and a place to not only go to relieve stress but to be with encouraging men and women who are more family than friends.

Even when I got pregnant with little babe and transitioned up to Chicago I knew I didn’t want to give up teaching, or taking, Pure Barre. Luckily my amazing owner in Texas helped me find another amazing owner up in Chicago and I was able to make a seamless transition to my new Pure Barre family.

To be honest, I haven’t been able to take as much as I would typically because of my pregnancy, but teaching throughout my pregnancy has been such a blessing.

Pure Barre is amazing. It is low-impact, fast paced, and forever changing. Classes never stay the same, your instructors push you every day, and it’s held in a positive, uplifting atmosphere that makes it so much better than any other workout I’ve ever experienced. Below are a few more reasons why I love Pure Barre, especially throughout pregnancy:

  • There are modifications for literally every exercise. This means that every class is made for YOU! Every teacher in every studio has been trained with modifications to help YOU get the most out of your time while you’re in the studio.
  • Pure Barre is 100% safe for pregnancies. Like modifications for not pregnant clients there is a whole guide of modifications for pregnant women to ensure you are always in a safe position for you and babe(s). Again, instructors are trained on these and will help you, through hands on corrections and ques to not only make sure your classes throughout pregnancy aren’t only safe for you and babe, but effective and challenging.
  • Pure Barre Classic Classes are 50 minutes, making them quick enough to squeeze into your day, but long enough for an effective workout. For us tired mamas to be classes are the perfect amount of time!

One of the main reasons I love Pure Barre is because of the community. Everyone is so kind, encouraging, and supportive and throughout your time in the studio that you’ll see the friendship and sisterhood take such a positive hold on your life. I love going to the studio and knowing I get to see friends- which makes it even more encouraging to show up! I’ve been able to meet so many great people in studios throughout my years, and now it’s so cool to meet other expecting mamas and make connections with them.

I know Pure Barre will forever be a part of my life. It has been so cool to see it carry on with me throughout the years, and I cannot wait to keep teaching, and taking, once little babe is here!

Have you ever tried Pure Barre before? If not, you can start with a one week free period at a studio near you!
